CLOSER TO ENGLISH
Currently, people around the world have the need to communicate in different languages in order to be closer as a worldwide community, to share experiences, ideas and realities, to have intercultural exchanges but the most important to understand and have a better vision of the world.
San Francisco de sales school (San Pacho) is aware of this reality and it has started a significant renovation not only in the academic field but regarding infrastructure and out of the classroom activities, that’s why for this new project we have decided to introduce bilingual environment as a part of our strategies in the acquisition of English language.
What are Bilingual Environments?
If you are wondering about it, let me explain that bilingual environments are moments to be immersed in English outside the classroom lessons, giving to the students the opportunity to participate in activities where they can interact each other in a natural way, activities such as games during the break or how to ask the snacks at the school shop, to narrate stories where students can share ideas and opinions or even connect the English with sports practice. We can see that another way to create Bilingual environments is by letting the students to do artistic activities where they can express their vision of the world they are living nowadays and how they propose solutions for different aspects too.

There some strategies where Parents can work with their kids: From Monkimun, experts in language learning, recommend parents to carry out activities with their children in other languages that help consolidate what the child is learning.
1. Play in English: Children learn while they play and it is through this activity that they grow personally. The game allows them to communicate what makes it the main tool that educators have to teach preschoolers. A very simple exercise that takes a little time is to match chips, for example: name a thing in English and look for its image. Thus the child will not forget the learned vocabulary.
2. Speak English with your children even if you do not have a good level: From Monkimun explain that "although the level of English of parents is not too good should not be cut at the time of practicing with their children because the sense of learning a language is to communicate so if at home English is spoken, but not It's all right, it will flow naturally. "
Using basic phrases that we use on a daily basis such as ¨good morning or come here¨ will help all parents to communicate easily in English with their children easily.
Marieta Viedma, co-founder of Monkimun explains that "the greatest motivation for a child to learn a language is to communicate with their parents, so the benefit of speaking English at home is much greater than the problem of accent or bad pronunciation. "

3. Encourages interest in the language: When children are exposed to English from a young age, they tend to see the language in a natural way, whereas if they are forced to speak it they run the risk of ending up hating it by relating it to a punishment or obligation. Going to the theater or visiting museums with English guides are fun options that will make children curious to learn this language. Another cheaper option is to represent at home a function in English of a story that you like, today you can easily find online scripts of the best known works in the language of Shakespeare.
4. Audiovisual material in English: Seeing the cartoons in English or searching for songs on YouTube that are in this language will help the children with the pronunciation as they adapt the ear to the language. The musicality of English will also serve to create easy rhymes to learn that you can repeat at home so that your little one does not forget them.
5. Take advantage of new technologies: Today, children are digital natives, so educating in the use of ICTs is essential to make a correct use of them and take advantage of everything they can contribute, also in language learning. Applications like Monokimun's Lingokids, Busuu, Duolinguo, allow children to learn English while having fun thanks to lessons that have been developed by expert linguists and teachers. In addition, it allows parents to know what their children have learned at every moment so that activities at home can be adapted to those elements or vocabulary that has been working.
